NOTE: QUARTERLY MEETING RESCHEDULED!!!
The quarterly meeting originally scheduled for Monday July 13th at 7:00 p.m. has been rescheduled for the following
Monday, July 20th at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at
Lamrusco'z To Go, 1344 E 41st St., just east of Peoria on 41 St. It is a very important meeting about the future of Who Owns Tulsa?
This year, we will elect a new Mayor and new City Council. Before our next meeting, we will know all the candidates and can begin the process of evaluating our choices. What is our role in shaping the discourse and helping get out the vote? This will be the primary subject of our meeting. Please take a minute to check out our new
City Elections page and let us know what you think.
I understand many who were involved in the creation of Who Owns Tulsa? feel disheartened as 10 N. Yale is constructed as planned, without one single concession to the neighbors and paid in part with our own taxpayer dollars.
By any standard, the project size, scope, and scale is disproportionate to the surroundings. For those still pained by the lack of process, it is difficult to watch and I know more than a few who have changed their driving habits to avoid the reminder.
I know a little bit about suffering, but all in all, I've been blessed. I don't mean to compare our frustration with those who live with severe mental illness and/or homelessness. I haven't walked a mile in their shoes and I don't pretend to know their individual suffering.
However, if you are reading this and rolling your eyes at the idea that any of us have suffered, please go look at the log in your own eye before judging the splinter in ours. One day, you too may find that the rights you thought were yours by virtue of the country in which you were born are not as you thought (especially if you don't have enough money to have them enforced in a court of law).
I recently visited several area businesses and while some were appreciative of our ongoing efforts, many were quick to tell me we had lost and the answer to the question: Who Owns Tulsa? is NOT US. I too have had moments of despair and defeat, but I will not accept that this city is not as much mine as anyone else's.
