This week, I thought I'd share some examples of the information discussed at our monthly meetings.  The following were just a few of the items discussed at our March meeting:

1)  The Gomez Threat.  The day before the meeting, we released two letters related to the threat of lawsuit from Councilor Gomez for defamation.  The initial letter was sent to me and threatened suit against anyone 'operating in concert' with me.  Related information including news coverage is provided under Critical Issues/Free Speech

Thanks to everyone who called, e-mailed, wrote the Council and the newspaper and otherwise showed unparalleled support for me and for the First Amendment!!!

2)  The Land Use Communications Task Force.  I shared a memo from Mayor Taylor establishing a Task Force to address the issues related to land use communications.  Some indicated skepticism that this was just a show of sorts and not a real attempt at change.  However, the memo sets out very concrete expectations.

The Task Force met for the first time last week.  There were many people in attendance and a sense of anticipation and hope that we could take positive steps toward change.  You can learn more about the Task Force and my involvement at City Watch/Land Use Task Force

3)  A Way Home for Tulsa.  Recently, WOT was invited to join 'A Way Home for Tulsa', an effort coordinated by the Tulsa Community Foundation to address chronic homelessness.  WOT was invited to participate in the Public Awareness group.

It was a bit intimidating to walk into that first meeting not knowing how I would be received.  Everyone has been incredibly gracious.  They have listened carefully and actively incorporated many ideas about engaging the community in a dialogue to address this significant community need.  Check back for more information.

If you would like to be the first to receive updates and to participate in a dialogue with other Tulsans about what is happening in our city, join us at the next WOT meeting, April 7 at 7:00pm, Lambrusco'z Deli  (41st just east of Peoria).  If you would like to receive e-mail updates or to ask a question, send us an e-mail.

Together, we can make our voices heard and our votes count!
